Considering the rising popularity of high-protein diets pushed by fitness influencers and gym bros, it’s a wonder this isn’t talked about more: how much consuming a shit ton of protein makes you shit. But one Redditor smashed the porcelain ceiling and dared to ask a question few have been brave enough to broach before: Is everyone else shitting as much as I am?
Posting to the r/NoStupidQuestions subreddit, OP explained that despite years of going to the gym regularly, he wasn’t seeing sufficient gains, and he knew why. His diet, specifically that he doesn’t eat enough to bulk up. Finally deciding to change his approach, he’s been eating 3,000 calories a day, resulting in him clogging his toilet multiple times in the past week plus, marveling at the fact that “3,000 calories turn into literal mountains of poop.”
He bemoaned the fact that nobody warned him of the risk to his toilet his new diet might pose, leading him to ask Reddit if all gym bros regularly clog their toilets or if this is a concern specific to him.
The most upvoted reply is from a woman who wrote, “As a woman who is on a caloric surplus, the amounts of protein poops and fart make me really insecure. Like I just be poopin and farting man.” While the next most upvoted response just reads, “Yea. We be shittin love,” keeping it short and sweet.
Someone else added, “The gym changing rooms are the most revolting smelling changing rooms in the world. Just an aroma of protein shits, farts and BO.”
Reddit’s top tip for the guy — with many fellow gym bros offering the same advice and explaining that they weren’t having similar clogging issues — was to incorporate more fiber into his diet, which is something we could probably all stand to do, gym-bro shits or not.
Time for some All-Bran, bro!
